I believe that true transformation comes from a deep exploration of a person's inner world. That’s why my therapeutic approach is based on person-centered psychotherapy, aimed at fostering structural change beyond mere symptom relief.
From a phenomenological perspective, and integrating evidence-based techniques (ISTDP, psychodynamic theory, CBT, ACT, and neuroscience), I support a respectful exploration of each patient’s unique experience, adapting to their individual process and prioritizing what emerges in the here and now. The therapeutic relationship becomes the key tool for cultivating awareness, transformation, and more authentic and healthy ways of being.

Getting Started with Therapy
1
Speak with your GP (optional but recommended)
Request a Mental Health Care Plan if you’d like to access Medicare rebates. You don’t need this to begin—your wellbeing journey can start anytime.
2
Reach out for a brief phone consultation
Contact Felipe Arenas Psychology for a 15-minute phone call to discuss what you’re looking for and schedule your initial session.
3
Attend your first session
Begin working together to explore goals, challenges, and a therapeutic rhythm that suits you. Consistency makes a real difference.
4
Re-referral after six sessions
If you’re using Medicare or private insurance rebates, a GP re-referral is needed after the sixth session. You’re eligible for up to 10 rebated sessions per calendar year.
5
Continue for as long as it’s meaningful
Therapy can be short-term or ongoing—tailored to your needs and goals. You set the pace.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long do the sessions last, and why is the first one longer?
The initial session lasts 2 hours to allow a deeper understanding of your challenges, goals, and therapeutic direction. Research shows that extended first sessions are linked to faster and more effective outcomes. Subsequent sessions are 60 minutes.
What issues can you help with?
I offer support for a wide range of psychological difficulties, including anxiety, depression, migratory grief, cultural shock, trauma, life transitions, relationship challenges, and personality-related issues. I also have a particular interest in men’s mental health, though I work with individuals of all genders.
Do you offer therapy in Spanish and with cultural sensitivity?
Yes. I am therapeutically fluent in both English and Spanish. My approach integrates cultural background and migration experiences as key components of the therapeutic process.
Do I need to see a GP before booking my first session?
No, you can begin therapy whenever you're ready. However, seeing a GP is recommended if you wish to access Medicare rebates (up to AUD $98.96 per session for 10 sessions per year with a Mental Health Care Plan).
Will 10 sessions be enough to resolve my concerns?
Not necessarily. Medicare provides financial support for 10 sessions, but the length of therapy depends on your personal needs and progress. Some clients may require fewer sessions, others may benefit from ongoing support.
Can I use private health insurance or other funding options?
Yes. Many private health policies offer rebates under Extras cover. I also accept clients supported by TAC, WorkCover, NDIS, and OSHC for international students. Coverage may vary, so it's best to check with your insurer or fund.
Do you offer reduced fees or discounts?
Yes. A reduced rate may be available for international students, individuals with specific visa conditions, or those experiencing financial hardship. This can be discussed in a free 15-minute consultation.
